From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with extensive world-building, a wide array of heroes, and a thrilling plot featuring celestial beings, evil spirits, and dark forces expanding in influence within the city.
Note: Key plot points for the third episode of the new season follow below.
The Warrior Group Introduced
The latest chapter finished on a major cliffhanger and introduced the first table of adventurers who will split off from the primary party to embark on their separate journey, distinct from the additional parties.
The Soldiers table includes the determined fighter (played by Travis), the agile character (the talented performer), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan (Robbie).
Dividing the Cast
Given a large ensemble, it was clear from the outset that keeping everyone at the same party would be impossible.
Hence, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Introduction, weaving together the characters’ stories before dividing into three separate parties: Fighters, Planners, and Questers.
What Defines the Combat Party
As described by the DM, the warrior group is for adventurers who prefer a typically action-packed battle-oriented narrative style where peaceful solutions are few and far between.
Upon first impression, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might seem out of place, but the events of the third episode make it clear why these particular heroes are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.
Why They Must Go
To begin with, the team has a clear idea where to go next after a brutal initial meeting with the antagonists.
Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose death initiated the campaign’s events—manipulated the foes for his own means, entering the secret base, attacking Thimble, and taking all the powerful objects to dispose of.
The antagonist then paid off his obligations and fled to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, beyond the city, with Teor’s brother close behind.
Character Drivers
Moreover, each character has a personal reason to depart Dol-Makjar:
- The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, desires vengeance.
- The adventurer has experience in Timmony and cautions that it is a dangerous place.
- The strong character and Wicander, having disobeyed his house’s orders to kill Teor and instead rescued him, have no other options.
- However, their status as key figures in the influential clan could help the group enter places they usually can’t.
- Moreover, The fighter swore a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his salvation and will now follow him anywhere.
Fugitives
In addition, all of them are wanted by the powers that govern the city for a range of causes, making remaining behind no longer safe:
- The agile adventurer and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
- The warrior and The healer betrayed House Halovar and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
- Teor is marked for death by the family.
This means them no alternative but to travel to the remote area in search of Casimir.
What’s Next?
Based on the recent installment’s post-show segment, we discover that the Soldiers table won’t be around next week, leaving the other eight cast members to round up the Explorers and Planners groups.
Viewers can anticipate learning which adventurers will be assigned to which table in Campaign 4’s concluding setup installment, released on October 24.
