The much-anticipated Season 2 of the adult animated musical series Hazbin Hotel arrives on Prime Video soon, and audience theories has been intense.
The first season introduces a large cast of personalities residing in the afterlife, pits them against each other with songs detailing their conflicts, and establishes heated competitions and emotional bonds that drive fan obsession.
The fandom's stated hopes for the new season vary widely, but certain themes recur frequently: Could a fan-favorite character break free from Valentino? Might we learn more about the mysterious "deal" constraining the enigmatic Alastor? Might certain characters' relationships evolve?
"Obviously, I don't make the show with audience demands as the main goal," the showrunner commented recently. "However I feel like me being a devotee of the series means there's a lot of it just inherently. I also want to see these things, and I want some of these things to happen, and obviously some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
She says her long-term vision is for a five-season run of Hazbin Hotel. Seasons 3 and 4 have received approval by Prime Video and A24, which produce the series.
That could imply viewers have to be patient for some of the major resolutions — but they may be surprised at how quickly the new season moves, and how much of what they're waiting for happens now.
"I feel like people are going to get a lot out of it," the creator notes. "We get some firsts. I think we receive some really amazing disclosures, some really cool backstories, and even basic elements, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] We're going to hear additional musical numbers from the characters we didn't get to hear before."
She's certainly aware of the theories and desires about the upcoming season — especially in the format of audience prediction charts.
"I've seen a couple people create a prediction grid about season 2," she says. "Obviously I can't post it, but I've already completed some of them, and almost all of them have almost a bingo. I thought, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that leads me to believe we accomplish much [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I was like, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that brings me joy."
Hazbin Hotel season 2 premieres on the streaming service on October 29.
